Anatomy of Agapornis

Agapornis' Anatomy

Anatomical Vocabulary of a Lovebird

We started the love for breeding African lovebirds when one of my friends gave a pair of Fischer to keep my sanity from corporate work. The interest luster into learning the beginning of natural bird characteristics, behavior and correct breeding. Bird species and taking care of them is not new to me, since childhood I learned from my grandfather in the province to breed "panabong na manok" (fighting cocks) and I also have lots of pigeon pets (more of that stories next time.)

To have a better understanding of a bird's characteristics, bird's score and qualifications - a guide to the agapornis anatomy is essential typically for beginners and aspiring breeders.

Bird breeding and management is not grasped overtime, learning the ropes, secret and techniques however frequently eats up time and patience.

Most new breed of breeders, the most common tool they can make fine use is by reading published books from renowned breeder themselves, joining club membership of the same niche and gaining the trust of camaraderie among group of breeders.

For the longest time, theories of mutations together with the idea of feather structure, color pigmentation, lovebird color combination has been stated and keeps on evolving. In laymen's term, its a matter of experimenting each breed and thorough understanding of color mutation to achieve the desired result.

But breeding alone, does not meant focusing on the idea of a scientific procedure in multiplying breeds, hence the idea implies that agapornis breeding calls attention to the whole concept of maintaining and caring for the lovebird's form, health and condition. Just like the way other pets are taken care of, agapornis or african lovebirds have a special diet to follow, medicines to be given to fight off illness and the same way on how to trigger of a lovebird's hormones.

In order to be a successful African lovebird breeder, one needs passion, appreciation, comprehension and awareness.
